Should Illegal Drugs be Legal?

Some individuals believe that illicit drugs should remain illegal because of the moral factor and that many drug users abuse, not just use drugs. Others believe that marijuana as well as stronger drugs should be legalized because the cost to keep them illegal is too high and government should not be protecting individuals from themselves . Many people believe the present system is not working. Should drugs be legalized and if so what safeguards should be in place?
